5 Game-Changing Book Marketing Courses to Boost Your Author Platform

LISTEN TO THIS BLOG POST:

Courses…. It’s where we began here at Evergreen Authors!

We lovingly call ourselves “course junkies” because we know that the right course can be an amazing way for authors to learn the business of writing without breaking the bank or spending any wasted time or energy.

We also know that not all courses are created equal.

In the spirit of sharing what we know and what has worked for us, we have come up with this list of some of our favorite courses for authors to learn the business and craft of writing, along with some pointers about how to save yourself tons of time and energy.

1) Meta Ads Mastery for Authors from Matthew J Holmes

To know us here at Evergreen Authors is to know that we are not exactly big on social media.

However, we also know how powerful social media advertising is, especially on Facebook, or Meta as it’s now known.

Josie, our resident ads expert, recently took Matthew’s Meta Ads Mastery Course and saw a 10X increase in her book sales using his strategies.🤯

He breaks down how to use the ads platform on Meta in a way that is clear, concise, and delivers fantastic results.

As a bonus, if you sign up for his newsletter, your inbox will not be clogged with a bunch of nonsense.

Matthew is constantly testing new ad campaigns on Meta and Amazon and shares his results in his newsletter.

He’s very up-front about what ad strategies are currently working, and what aren’t right now.

We rely on his expertise – consistently – to help us with our own ad strategies for our books!

P.S. He also has a new Amazon Ads course coming soon which we wholeheartedly recommend joining the waitlist for right here.

2) Free 5 Day Amazon Ad Profit Challenge from Bryan Cohen

You might know the instructor of this course, Bryan Cohen, as the host of the Sell More Books podcast.

He is one of the people we turn to when we want to know what’s REALLY going on in the publishing world.

What we appreciate about his FREE 5 Day Amazon Ad Challenge is that it covers a LOT of ground while also holding authors accountable to a specific time period to gauge results.

One of Josie’s highest performing Amazon ad campaigns is from a 5 Day Amazon Ad Challenge she took several years ago from Bryan. His strategy still holds up!

3) Pinterest Academy from Pinterest

We keep trying to quit Pinterest, but the data simply will not allow us to.

For this website and for our author websites, Pinterest consistently remains one of our biggest sources of web traffic, despite both of us not being active on the site for years.

Pinterest remains one of the most important and easy to use social(ish) platforms out there to sell your books and build your audience.

And there’s nothing we love more than a platform which really, truly wants its users to use it WELL.

Their free courses are key to understanding and staying up to date on the Pinterest platform.

4) LinkedIn for Authors from The LinkedIn Gal

Jen’s LinkedIn courses and coaching were a game-changer for us here at Evergreen Authors, and so we (lovingly) talked her into creating a course that would help authors learn how to use LinkedIn effectively.

We think that LinkedIn is one of the most under utilized social platforms out there, and if you do choose to use it, this is the course that can skyrocket your opportunities in the publishing industry and boost your author platform.

Both of us here at Evergreen Authors can attribute our current careers in the publishing industry as a direct result of using LinkedIn and the connections we’ve made there.

There are also a lot of great job postings in the industry on LinkedIn that you won’t find anywhere else, and having a professional profile there will increase your chances of getting hired exponentially.

P.S. You can follow Evergreen Authors on LinkedIn right here. We’d love to connect!

5) Masterclasses from David Sedaris, Amy Poehler, Amy Tan, and so many more!

We recently met with an author whose employer had given them a year’s access to Masterclass as a company gift. How awesome is that?!

Masterclass offers some seriously incredible courses for writers, all around the craft of figuring out your unique voice and message. Given that they are already rich and famous, they have the privilege of being able to focus on the ART of books, not just the business.

We can’t think of a better person to hang out with when you’re in a creative slump than the queen herself, Judy Blume.

We obviously haven’t taken every writing or book marketing course out there, so this list is constantly changing for us, as it should for you, too.

The best advice we can offer you, no matter where you are in your writing and publishing journey, is to choose courses with a specific end goal in mind.

Learning “how to sell more books” is a different end goal than learning “how to leverage Pinterest to grow my audience”.

In other words, be careful that your courses match your knowledge level, your time commitment, and of course, your budget.

And if you come across any fantastic courses for authors we should know about, please let us know!
